Tottenham ready to mount a league title challenge – Bale
TOTTENHAM flyer Gareth Bale believes Spurs are ready to take another step up and mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season.
Harry Redknapp ended years of frustration in May when he led the White Hart Lane outfit to fourth place and a first ever shot at the Champions League.
And Wales star Bale (right) is convinced they can raise the bar by challenging Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal – if Redknapp opens his chequebook.
He told City PM: “We’ve got a good team and I think if we invest in a few more players I don’t think there’s any reason why we can’t go a little bit further. I’d say challenging for the title is the main aim for every single team and I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t mount a challenge.”
Spurs only ended five points behind Arsenal last season and Bale, 21, is desperate to finish ahead of their north London rivals for the first time since 1995.
“I hope this is the year we finish ahead of them,” he added. “We’ve got just as good a squad as them and there’s no reason why we can’t beat them in the Premier League this year.”
Among the Gunners’ squad is Theo Walcott, who grew up alongside Bale in the
Southampton youth set-up, and was left out of England’s World Cup squad – much to his old team-mate’s amazement.
“It was a big shock to me,” said Bale. “I honestly think that with his pace he adds a different element to any team. It’s a shame he didn’t go.”
