Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli in danger of missing rest of season after being slapped with FA violent conduct charge

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli faces the prospect of missing the remainder of the domestic season after being hit with a violent conduct charge by the Football Association.

The charges relates to an incident during the first half of Tottenham’s draw West Brom at White Hart Lane on Monday night when Alli appeared to punch Baggies’ midfielder Claudio Yacob.

If found guilty, Alli is likely to face a three-match suspension which would rule the recently-crowned Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year out of the rest of Tottenham’s campaign.

“Dele Alli has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video,” read a Football Association statement.

“The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in an incident with West Bromwich Albion’s Claudio Yacob in the 26th minute of the game last night [Monday 25 April 2016].”

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino claimed in the aftermath of his side’s clash with West Brom that Euro2016-hopeful Alli’s fiery on-field temperament had made him a target for provocation.

The potential loss of Alli is the latest blow to Tottenham’s increasingly forlorn bid to rein in Premier League leaders Leicester and seal a maiden top-flight title since 1961.

Their draw with mid-table outfit West Brom on Monday left Spurs seven points adrift of the Foxes with only three matches to play. Leicester can secure the title with victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
