SAM TORRANCE admits he is in the dark over an invite from Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie to deliver a motivational speech to the 2010 side.

Montgomerie yesterday revealed his intention to call upon Ryder Cup greats such as Torrance, Bernhard Langer, Ian Woosnam and Nick Faldo to inspire the Europeans to beat the United States at Celtic Manor.

Torrance, however, insists he has not yet been approached by his fellow Scot, but says he will gladly help the team in any way possible. “I’ve not heard anything,” said the City.A.M columnist, who captained the European side, which included Montgomerie, to victory in 2002.

“Colin knows I would do anything to help him and the European team bring the trophy back and I’d be absolutely honoured to be asked.”

Montgomerie has, however, ruled out a return to the coaching team for Woosnam, who led the team to glory in 2006. Woosnam was among those lined up to vice-captain the side for the event in his native Wales, but Montgomerie says he is looking for a younger candidate.
