Chris Evans, the Radio 2 DJ and host of the soon-to-return TFI Friday TV show, has revealed he is "secretly filming" for Top Gear, despite having previously ruled out any involvement in the show.

Appearing on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch show, Evans said: “Not started yet, but we are doing a secret Top Gear film on Tuesday,” responding to the question of when he would start presenting the show.

“We’re making a Top Gear… we’re doing a Top Gear sequence with an independent production company and we’re going to see how it goes.”

Evans ruled out becoming a presenter of the hugely successful BBC show after Jeremy Clarkson was fired for assaulting a producer and fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond followed him out the door.

The BBC is reported to have offered May and Hammond £1m to stay on with the show as it struggles to find a way forward after the saga. There has also been rumour of the trio reforming for a car show to be aired on Netflix, titled "House of Cars".

Clarkson, May and Hammond all tweeted that they would be working on new TV ideas – such as TFI Thursday, a Radio 2 breakfast show and The Two Show on Fridays – Evans is also a presenter of the BBC's The One Show.

The former presenters even got retweeted by the possible future one.

RT @JeremyClarkson: Next week, I'm doing a pilot Radio 2 breakfast show with an independent production company. We'll see how it goes.
