Great Britain kicked off super Saturday by taking gold in two new Olympic events, pushing their medal total in Tokyo up to 27 on day eight of the games.

Team GB claimed gold in the first Olympic mixed triathlon relay event, followed by winning the inaugural swimming 4x100m mixed medley relay in world-record time.

Team GB now has eight gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, with four of those coming in the pool for the first time in over a century.

It was triathlete Jonathan Brownlee’s first Olympic gold medal at his third games, securing bronze and silver in London 2012 and Rio 2016 respectively.

Emma Wilson added a sailing bronze in the women’s RS:X windsurfing.

More medals are set to flow, with boxer Lauren Price guaranteed a podium as she reached the women’s middleweight semi-finals.

Dina Asher-Smith crashed out of the women’s 100m after finishing third in the semi-finals, but Team GB were represented in the final by Daryll Neita, which was won by Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Asher-Smith has pulled out of the 200m event due to a hamstring injury.
