Theo: We’ll put fizz in Carling
ARSENAL winger Theo Walcott insists this is the year that the Gunners will end their potless streak.
Walcott fired the club into the last eight of the Carling Cup earlier this week in a 4-0 rout over Newcastle.
It has been five years since the Emirates fans were last delivered silverware – the 2005 FA Cup.
But, ahead of tomorrow’s quarter-final draw, Walcott reckons it is time to make room in the trophy cabinet.
“I think it is a great opportunity for us to win it,” said the 21-year-old. “Our fans have been desperate for us to get a trophy and so have the players as well. Hopefully this could be one of many.
“If we continue to play football like that it’s looking bright for us.”
Walcott is blowing hot at the moment with his brace at St James’ Park making it six goals in six.
And the England ace says his blistering form is down to putting in the hard yards in training.
“I’ve practised a lot in training. Against Newcastle hopefully I’ve showed people what I can do,” the forward added. “I’ve been on the goal sheet a bit more often and hopefully that can continue.”
Arsenal take on West Ham at Upton Park tomorrow but will be without young full-back Kieran Gibbs.
The 21-year-old has been sidelined by knee damage he picked up against Newcastle on Wednesday.
“It’s a medial knee ligament strain,” said boss Arsene Wenger.
“It needs to be checked on the scan but it will be a few weeks.”
Meanwhile, crocked pair Robin van Persie and Aaron Ramsey could be back in training as early as next week.
Van Persie is out with an ankle injury while Ramsey is recovering from a horror leg break.
