TODAY’S interim results from Cineworld will be essential viewing with the cinema chain set to post a decent performance helped by good revenues from popular 3D films, including Avatar and Toy Story 3. In spite of the negative impact of the World Cup, which kept people away from the big screen, along with the spell of good weather in May and June, analysts expect revenues to increase by 4 per cent in the first half of this year. As we move into the holiday season, there may be even more room for improvement. Cantor Index quotes 207.9p-209.3p.

Enquest, the North Sea gas and exploration company, has been having a good run recently after completing work on two wells ahead of schedule. The Enquest share price has risen 16.6 per cent since the company listed in April and it could have further to go. Investors should be cheered by the announcement that drilling has been completed early since it shows that the company is well managed. ShortsandLongs.com offers a rolling spread of 120.3p-121.1p.

With recent takeover speculation mounting in the insurance sector, Legal and General could be poised to benefit from any potential offers. The stock is very attractive: it has a dividend yield of 4 per cent and has recently risen to 12-month highs. It may well continue its rally to 100p. ETX Capital is quoting 95.80p-96.04p for the daily rolling contract.

BHP Billiton’s $39bn hostile bid for Canadian company Potash Corporation has led to some speculative investors jumping on board the Loonie train. Dollar-Cad was trading above C$1.04 as the news started to break on Tuesday, but by lunchtime yesterday, trading was below C$1.0280, as speculators gambled that demand for Canadian dollars caused by the deal would see further weakness in dollar-Cad. C$1.0360 should prove to be a strong resistance level on the upside, but if C$1.0268 gives way, then C$1.010 is the likely target. Spread Co offers a spread on dollar-Cad of C$1.0320-C$1.0324.
