Thanks to Landmark Place, you never have to leave the Square Mile

Two new glass structures are set to join the banks, law firms and sky gardens that line the City’s riverside in the summer of 2018. Only this time, they’ll be housing wealthy residents who want to live on top of the financial district.

A nine storey block will interconnect with an 11 storey block to form Landmark Place, a joint project between Barratt London and CPC Group, which also have a jetty planned for the spot. It’s been through many incarnations, starting life as Roman baths, then surviving the Great Fire of London and the Blitz – but became known as Sugar Quay, Tate & Lyle’s presence in the City.

Architects at Broadway Malyan – responsible for The Tower at Nine Elms, currently London’s tallest residential building at 51 storeys high – were called in to re-design the project and they’ve taken inspiration from Le Corbusier, the Swiss-French father of modern architecture.

It’ll be 80 per cent glass with an ultra-contemporary aesthetic inside, as design firm Bowler James Brindley has modelled the interiors on Mies van de Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion.

Joint sales agents Savills and Knight Frank have a high-net worth clientele in mind. Andrew Hawkins, associate director at Savills, says, “We expect demand to come from discerning buyers who want the exclusivity of a riverside address combined with the convenience of being in the City.”

The first batch of 165 studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments went on sale this month and prices rise to £10m for the penthouses.
