Tesco: Black Friday will beat Boxing Day sales

Tesco is betting the farm on Black Friday.

The troubled supermarket, whose share price has plummeted more than 15 per cent since it admitted to having “overstated” its profits in September, is going all out for the sales bonanza day, which falls on November 28.

To ensure some of the multi-billion-pound spend goes in Tesco's direction, the supermarket has announced it will be “giving customers its biggest ever Black Friday event”, with discounts of up to 70 per cent on more than 200 items from its electronic, entertainment, mobile, DIY and toy ranges.

Deals will include 70 per cent off “a leading branded coffee machine”, 50 per cent off a HD ready LED TV and “significant discounts” on gaming console bundles.

All told, Tesco reckons customers will make savings of more than £15m over the three days from Black Friday.

As a result, the supermarket has forecast that Black Friday will be bigger than Boxing Day this year.

General merchandise director Rob Hattrell said: “Black Friday now marks the real start of Christmas shopping and Tesco is recognising this with its Black Friday sale in-store and online.”

Tesco is expecting more than two-thirds of Black Friday shoppers will choose a click-and-collect option, Hattrell added.
