Taxi wars: Black cab app Gett takes on Uber with £10 flat fare in central London (but it doesn’t go south of the river)
Black cab taxi app Gett has drawn the battle lines against Uber, after it launched a £10 flat fare for rides in central London.
The company, which works with licensed black cabs and Hackney carriages in 25 UK cities, said the fare will apply between 10am and 10pm on Monday to Friday for the rest of July.
But it'll only apply to fares between Marble Arch to the west, the Tower of London to the east and Euston Road to the north. And, naturally, it doesn't go south of the river.
The decision comes the day after ride-sharing app Uber, whose pricing model works on a supply and demand basis, was heavily criticised after its prices tripled during the Tube strike.
Gett said downloads of its app had increased 300 per cent and orders had jumped 200 per cent during the strike, which caused chaos on the roads and left many commuters queueing for hours to squeeze onto buses.
