Supply store Wickes has seen like-for-like growth lift more than 22 per cent on pre-pandemic levels, as the UK’s warm weather pushes DIY’s lockdown momentum to continue.

The Watford-headquartered retailer said that its sales lift in the 26 weeks to 26 June was driven by DIY and local trade.

Physicals sales were up 33.1 per cent on 2020 levels when it was struck by store closures, reduced footfall and supply chain issues, which pushed the company to bolster its online offering.

“We are managing to navigate inflationary pressure and industry-wide raw material constraints by working closely with our suppliers,” CEO David Wood said.

Since stores reopened in April in the UK, ordered sales have shot up over 30 per cent on pre-pandemic levels.

Wickes said its online sales are set to bolster the rest of its sales growth in the second half of the year.

“We remain on track to continue to grow in a responsible and sustainable way, providing our customers with the products they need at the best possible value.”
