CHELS EA striker Salomon Kalou has become the latest player to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Ivory Coast international’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season but the Blues have tied him down to a new three-year deal.

He joins fellow countryman Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole, John Obi Mikel, Florent Malouda and captain John Terry in committing themselves to the club this season.

The Blues have been forced to safeguard the immediate future of their current squad in the wake of their Fifa transfer ban, which the club are currently appealing.

Meanwhile, the Blues have also been boosted by the news that Michael Ballack’s ankle injury, sustained while playing for Germany at the weekend, is not as bad as first feared. He is expected to play against Aston Villa on Saturday.
