Striker Jamie Vardy’s future still unclear as England arrive in France to Roy Hodgson warning about priorities

England touched down at Le Bourget Airport this afternoon for the European Championship with striker Jamie Vardy’s future still a matter of some considerable debate.

Vardy was expected to decide whether to join Arsenal, who have activated a clause in the former non-league forward’s contract, or remain with Premier League champions Leicester before the England squad departed for France.

As of tonight there is no confirmation on where Vardy would be playing his football next season. Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson, meanwhile, has reiterated his assertion that he does not want the tournament to become a sideshow for transfer sagas.

“We are not trying to block players’ futures or transfers, but as far as we are concerned, our ongoing theme is that England is England, your club is your club. While you are with England we want you to stay focused on us," said Hodgson.

England will hold an open training session on Tuesday as preparations for their opening Group B clash against Russia in Marseille on Saturday continue.
