Spurs hope to move by 2012
TOTTENHAM have submitted a planning application for a new stadium, which is set to boast a huge single-tier stand behind one of the goals.
The ground will have a capacity of 56,250 and is to be built on land right next to their current home, the 36,000-seat White Hart Lane.
Spurs hope to move into the stadium for the 2012-13 season, although it is not scheduled to be completed to full capacity until 12 months later.
The scheme has a working title of the Northumberland Development Project but the stadium’s eventual moniker depends on naming rights, which the club plans to sell.
The 63-row single-tier stand has been compared to Liverpool’s famous Kop and has been designed to maximise the atmosphere inside the bowl-like arena. A club museum, public square, hotel, supermarket and 434 homes are also part of the ambitious project. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said the club aimed to deliver “the most fan-friendly stadium in Europe”. England’s 2018 World Cup bid chief Andy Anson said the ground would be a potential venue for the event.
