Little rest for the Little Master
CRICKET: India’s Sachin Tendulkar has been rewarded for becoming the first-ever batsman to score 200 runs in a one-day innings on Wednesday by being handed a well-earned rest for tomorrow’s third ODI against South Africa in Jaipur.

Tendulkar, 36, is rested along with fellow opening batsman Virender Sehwag as India look to bring in new blood with the three-match series already sown up.

Saints secure Mercey signing
RUGBY UNION: Northampton have continued their rebuilding for next season by clinching the signing of England Saxons prop Tom Mercey from Saracens.

Highly-rated Mercey, 22, can play either side of the scrum and teams up again with Saints’ director of rugby Jim Mallinder, who called him up for the Saxons’ 2007 Churchill Cup squad.

“He has matured very quickly and has a bright future,” Mallinder said.

Madison heads Kempton field
RACING: Madison Du Berlais heads a final field of 14 runners in tomorrow’s Racing Post Chase at Kempton after early favourite Possol was pulled out.

Trainer Henry Daly pulled the Grand National contender out of the race due to the unsuitably soft ground.

Along with Madison Du Berlais, trainer David Pipe also saddles recent Warwick winner Piraya with Tom George’s Nacarat the one to beat.

Chandhok linked with Campos
FORMULA ONE: India’s Karun Chandhok is poised to make his F1 debut with the new Campos team this year.

The 26-year-old, who raced in GP2 last year, is believed to be on the verge of securing his drive for the Spanish-based team.

His partner will be Brazilian Bruno Senna, nephew of the late F1 legend Ayrton Senna, who signed for the Campos team last year.
