Gallacher in warning to Tiger
GOLF: Former Ryder Cup skipper Bernard Gallacher has urged Tiger Woods to ditch his current entourage following his fall from grace.
Gallacher believes the American’s aides are partly responsible for the personal problems that continue to keep Woods away from the course.
“He has been badly handled by his management,” said Gallacher. “He’s got those sycophants around him but he’s also got lawyers and PR people and he needs to kick them into touch.”
Collingwood named vice-captain
CRICKET: England all-rounder Paul Collingwood has been named vice-captain for the tour of Bangladesh, which gets underway tomorrow.
The experienced Collingwood, 33, will assist Alastair Cook, who is skippering the team for three one-day matches and two Tests in the absence of the rested Andrew Strauss. Former captain Kevin Pietersen had been tipped as a possible vice-skipper before the announcement.
Alonso hails ‘best ever’ Ferrari
FORMULA ONE: Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has warned his rivals that he has never driven a better car than his current drive, the Ferrari F10.
Despite clocking slower lap times than rivals McLaren during testing last week, the Spaniard is convinced he has the pick of the bunch. “This is the best car I’ve ever had,” said Alonso. “Red Bull, McLaren and Renault have been very quick and have shown their cards, while we are still hiding ours.”
Federer out for two more weeks
TENNIS: World No1 Roger Federer has pulled out of this week’s Dubai Championship with a lung infection and is expected to be sidelined for another fortnight.
The Australian Open champion, who has not competed since winning the Grand Slam last month, now plans to return at Indian Wells on 11 March.
Britain’s Andy Murray and last year’s winner Novak Djokovic are among the challengers in Dubai.
