Event boss cools Murray row
TENNIS: Director of the Marseille Open, Jean-Francois Caujolle, has denied calling for Andy Murray to be suspended from the ATP Tour for pulling out of his event.

Murray was due to be top seed in Marseille but withdrew this week through fatigue following his Australian Open exploits.

Caujolle was quoted as saying Murray should be suspended but cooled the row yesterday by saying: “I never said that he should be suspended, but it’s true I was really disappointed because he was my top player.”

Centurions put India in charge
CRICKET: A magnificent third-wicket stand of 249 from Virender Sehwag (165) and Sachin Tendulkar (106) helped India take control of the second Test with South Africa in Kolkata.

The pair helped the hosts rally to 342-5 at the end of day two after having bowled out the Proteas for 296.

Sehwag hit 23 fours and two sixes in his knock while Tendulkar made his 47th Test ton, but they fell in successive overs.

Hagen takes lead in Oman
CYCLING: Team Sky rider Edvald Boasson Hagen took over the leaders red jersey at the Tour of Oman after a third-placed finish on stage two.

The Norwegian was pipped on the line by Liquigas’s Daniele Bennati and Tyler Ferrar (Garmin-Transitions) but it was enough to take the overall lead from French rider Jimmy Casper.
