City revel in Saints victory
AMERICAN FOOTBALL: New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton dedicated his side’s victory in the NFC Championship game with Minnesota Vikings to the whole city following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina four years ago.

The Saints were cheered on to their first-ever Superbowl at the restored Louisiana Superdome after edging past the Vikings 31-28 in overtime.

“This is for everybody in this city,” Payton said. “This stadium used to have holes in it and used to be wet. It’s not wet anymore. This is for the city of New Orleans.”

The Saints now play the Indianapolis Colts in Miami on 7 February after they beat the New York Jets in the AFC final.

British chiefs set medal target
WINTER OLYMPICS: British chiefs have their sights set on winning three medals in Vancouver next month after investing £6.5m in the four years leading up to the Games.

John Steele, UK Sport’s Chief Executive, said: “The Games are going to be hugely competitive, and our medal target is without doubt challenging.”

Klitschko to face Chambers
BOXING: World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will make the next defence of his title against American Eddie Chambers in Dusseldorf in March.

Chambers, 27, has just one defeat on his record and is the top-ranked opponent for Klitschko.
