Last-gasp kick denies Wasps
RUGBY UNION: Wasps face an agonising wait to discover whether they have earned a home quarter-final tie in the European Challenge Cup after an injury-time penalty saw them slip to a 19-17 defeat to Racing Metro last night.

Wasps led through two Tom Varndell tries and seven points from Danny Cipriani, but indiscipline proved decisive as Jonathan Wisniewski kicked the winner.

Mauger to leave Tigers
RUGBY UNION: Leicester centre Aaron Mauger is to leave the club and head back to New Zealand at the end of the season in order to force his way into the All Blacks’ World Cup squad for 2011.

Mauger joined the Tigers after the 2007 World Cup in France, but after making 50 caps, the 29-year-old has decided he wants to return to Canterbury.

Poulter leads in Abu Dhabi
GOLF: England’s Ian Poulter holed a 70-foot putt on the final green to take a share of the lead after the first round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.

Poulter is joined by fellow countryman Richard Bland and South African Keith Horne on seven-under-par, while nine players are a further shot back, including Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia.

Pacquiao will take on Floyd
BOXING: Manny Pacquiao says a showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr will happen later this year.

Talks with Mayweather broke down over the American’s demands for random blood and urine sampling.

But Pacquiao said: “It will happen. I’m still hoping a fight with Mayweather will be pushed through, maybe by summer.”
