Fallon seeks winning return
RACING: Kieren Fallon has vowed to hit the ground running when he makes his long-awaited return to the saddle at Lingfield this afternoon.

The eyes of the world will be trained on the 44-year-old Irishman, who been away from British racecourses for over three years due to a combination of an Old Bailey match-fixing trial and an 18-month drugs suspension imposed by French authorities.

Fallon has four rides at Lingfield before cutting across Surrey to Kempton for three rides in the evening meet. “It is very important that I hit the jackpot on the first day and ride some winners,” Fallon said. “I’ll enjoy it more too. I wasn’t enjoying it. I’m going to look at it a little bit different now.”

Fisichella joins Ferrari
FORMULA ONE: Giancarlo Fisichella has completed his expected switch to Ferrari for the rest of the season after being released from his contract with Force India.

Italian Fisichella, who finished runner-up in the Belgian Grand Prix last Sunday, will replace test driver Luca Badoer in standing in for the injured Felipe Massa for the final five races, starting with his home grand prix at Monza next weekend.

The 36-year-old said: “I am very grateful to Force India owner Vijay Mallya for allowing me this opportunity. It has always been my ambition to do this.”

Arsenal to appeal Eduardo ban
FOOTBALL: Arsenal last night confirmed they are to appeal Uefa’s decision to hand striker Eduardo a two-match European ban for diving against Celtic in a Champions League qualifier.

The Croatian has been found guilty of deceiving referee Manuel Mejuto Gonzalez – a decision which the Gunners describe as “deeply flawed”.

“There are obvious errors and inconsistencies in Uefa’s judgment,” the club statement said.”
