Bender injury sees abandonment
FOOTBALL: Accrington’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Tranmere was abandoned last night after 39 minutes due to a serious injury to Tom Bender. The 18-year-old was treated for a suspected broken neck for 30 minutes on the field at the Crown Ground before being taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious.

Khan set for Peterson bout
BOXING: Britain’s Amir Khan will defend his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles against American Lamont Peterson in Washington on 10 December. Mandatory IBF challenger Peterson, 27, has won all but two of his 31 fights. Khan said: “I know Lamont is a strong contender but it doesn’t matter that I’m fighting him in his back yard.”
