Ancelotti wants England return
FOOTBALL: Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has stated his eagerness to manage a Premier League club almost five months after he was sacked by the west London club. “I have a strong will to remain in England,” he said. “For a coach, this is the ideal country. But I would only consider [coaching] top clubs, including Tottenham and Liverpool.”
Quinn changes Sunderland role
FOOTBALL: Former Republic of Ireland international Niall Quinn has stood down as Sunderland chairman to focus on a new role within the club. Quinn will now “spearhead international development on behalf of the club” while owner Ellis Short will take over as chairman.
Gayle blows Somerset away
CRICKET: Somerset suffered their first defeat in the Champions Twenty20 League as they sunk to a heavy 50-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. West Indian opener Chris Gayle smashed eight sixes and four fours in his 86 off 46 balls as the hosts ran up 206-6 in Bangalore. But, despite 58 in 38 balls from Peter Trego, Somerset fell well short on 155-6.
Tiger’s slide gathers pace
GOLF: Tiger Woods has fallen to 51st place in the world rankings, the first time the former world No1 has been out of the top 50 since October 1996. Woods spent 780 weeks in the top 50, according to the Official World Golf Rankings. Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are first and second in the rankings, Rory McIlroy is in third spot with Steve Stricker, the highest ranked American, ranked fourth.
