Marseille plan to sue De Jong
FOOTBALL: Marseille say they will take legal action against Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong over the broken leg suffered by Hatem Ben Arfa.
France star Ben Arfa, on loan at Newcastle from Marseille, has been ruled out for several months after suffering two breaks following a tackle from De Jong last week.
Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier said: “We will file a claim against De Jong. It’s about getting rid of this type of individual from European grounds.”
De Jong has been condemned for the challenge, with Holland coach Bert van Marwijk dropping him from the squad for the current round of internationals.
Cipriani still has World Cup hope
RUGBY UNION: England outcast Danny Cipriani insists he has not given up hope of playing his way into Martin Johnson’s World Cup plans.
Cipriani, who has signed for Melbourne Rebels, is almost certain to miss the Six Nations because the competition clashes with his club’s Super 15 season.
But he said: “If I’m playing well hopefully I’ll play some part in the squad. My whole life has been geared towards playing for England and that’s always been my ambition.”
Cipriani dismissed speculation he was having second thoughts about moving to Australia, adding: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
