Tendulkar in record books again
CRICKET: Sachin Tendulkar yesterday became the most capped player in Test history after walking out for his 169th appearance for India.

The 37-year-old surpassed the record set by former Australia captain Steve Waugh on day one of the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Tendulkar, however, couldn’t prevent Sri Lanka racing to 293-4 at the end of day one. Kumar Sangakkara top-scored with 75.

Finalists fined for ill-discipline
FOOTBALL: Fifa have fined Spain and Holland for their players’ poor discipline during the World Cup final.

The Dutch federation was fined a total of £9,080 as their Spanish counterparts were ordered to pay £6,053.

Referee Howard Webb handed out 13 yellow cards and sent off Holland’s John Heitinga in last month’s ill-tempered match, which Spain won 1-0.

Khan handed US PGA lifeline
GOLF: England’s Simon Kahn has been handed a last minute invitation to play in next week’s US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

Kahn, currently ranked 102 in the world, will be looking to build on his BMW PGA Championship triumph at Wentworth in May.
