FXPro land Fulham deal

FOOTBALL: Financial trading services firm FXPro have sealed a multi-million pound sponsorship deal with Premier League side Fulham.

The club was unable to disclose a specific figure but said the deal was the biggest in the club’s history – more than the £3m spent by previous sponsors, consumer electronics company LG.

FxPro will appear on Fulham’s first team shirt until after the 2012/13 season and will also support a variety of club initiatives.

West Country derby for Chiefs

RUGBY UNION: Newcomers Exeter Chiefs have been handed a mouth-watering start to their first-ever Guinness Premiership campaign.

The Championship play-off winners will take on local rivals Gloucester in the season opener on 4 September before then traveling to Welford Road to take on champions Leicester.

The Tigers take on Northampton first up, while the traditional London double header sees London Irish host Saracens and Wasps take on Harlequins.

Tigers hit for homophobic chants

RUGBY LEAGUE: Castleford Tigers have been fined £40,000 by the Rugby Football League after fans shouted homophobic abuse at Crusaders’ Gareth Thomas.

Former Wales rugby union international Thomas, 35, announced he was gay last December. Castleford chief executive Richard Wright said he was “shocked” by the decision, adding the club will appeal.
