FULHAM (2) v/s SHAKHTAR DONETSK (1)

BOBBY ZAMORA fired a brilliant winner as Fulham claimed a crucial home leg victory over holders Shakhtar Donetsk at Craven Cottage.

The striker smashed home an unstoppable 25-yard drive to net his fifth goal of the Europa League campaign and give the Cottagers a vital lead going into the second leg in the Ukraine next week.

Roy Hodgson’s men got off to the best possible start when, on just three minutes, Danny Murphy threaded through for Zoltan Gera to slot home under the body of Andriy Pyatov.

Donetsk, however, had the better of the opening period and were well worthy of their 33rd minute equaliser when Luis Adriano pounced to prod home past Mark Schwarzer.

But Fulham dug in and got their rewards when Murphy and Gera combined for Zamora to smash home the second. The hosts missed chances to make it 3-1 late on but will still be grateful for the lead they take to the Donbass Arena next Thursday.
