Scotsman Laird can be best of ‘Brits Abroad’
WHILE the European Tour has grown in stature and Martin Kaymer and co have established themselves at the top of the world order, across the pond Scotsman Martin Laird has quietly progressed through the ranks to become one of the biggest dangers on the American circuit.
He earned his summons to the Masters thanks to his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational a fortnight ago and will not be overawed on his debut. His high ball flight gives him an advantage and the 22/1 available on Betdaq for Laird to be top European is certainly tempting.
The 28-year-old is also one of Sporting Index’s ‘Brits Abroad’ hotshots where the firm quote the combined performance of Laird, Luke Donald, Justin Rose and Ian Poulter at 23-27, where 25 points are awarded for each player finishing in the top ten plus a 25 point bonus for the winner. Rose is another who normally plies his trade in the US and has impressed of late, Donald sits at the top of the Race to Dubai after his WGC-Accenture Match Play victory and Poulter will be keen to better his tied-10th last time.
