The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, will sit down with key partners from TFL, the London fire brigade, water companies, London councils and the Environment agency today to discuss recent flooding incidents in the capital

Impact reduction and future flood prevention measures are the key focus.

Recent flash floods have brought life to a standstill in some parts of London. Homes, businesses, train stations and the TFL network have all been affected.

The Environment Agency, which holds the strategic overview of all forms of flood risk, will be a key player during today’s discussion.

City Hall has invested £13m in green infrastructure projects to help London adapt to climate change. A further £4m from the Mayor’s Green and Resilient Spaces Fund aims to reduce flood risk.

In a further move towards future flood prevention, the Greater London Authority has produced guidance on how to prepare for climate change.

The Mayor’s new London Plan has specific guidance to reduce surface water flood risk in every new development.

Sadiq Khan comments: : “I continue to lobby the Government to devolve more funding and powers to local leaders to enable us deal with both flooding and the wider impacts of climate change.”
