Commuters were facing travel chaos this morning as two London Underground lines experienced severe delays due to fires.

Severe delays hit the Victoria Line following a fire alert and faulty train at Brixton station.  London buses, South Eastern and South Western rail services will accept Underground tickets.

London Overground services are also suspended between Surrey Quays and New Cross, and between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction due to a signal failure at Whitechapel.

The Jubilee Line was hit with delays this morning due to another fire alert at Green Park station, however services have since resumed.

A TfL spokesperson said: “We apologise to customers on the Victoria and Jubilee lines for the disruption they experienced this morning.

"This was caused by two separate cases of smouldering at Brixton and Green Park stations. The London Fire Brigade attended both and confirmed they were safe to open, and both lines are now running again.”
