Power systems manufacturer Rolls-Royce has signed an €80m (£57m) contract with General Dynamics European Land Systems to deliver 589 MTU Series 199 diesel engines for new British Army armoured vehicles.

Delivery of the engines is to start in 2016, with the last engines to be delivered in 2022.

According to Rolls-Royce, this will be the first time that MTU engines have been used in British Army vehicles.

Dr Ulrich Dohle, head of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, said: “We are delighted that our MTU engine has been trusted for this important project. This order once again proves that when it comes to performance and reliability, the Series 199 engine is benchmark in its power range.”

MTU is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, which sits in the Land & Sea division of Rolls-Royce. Earlier this month, the company announced 600 job cuts from within the Land & Sea division.
