Red Bull deny Russia GP link to driver choice
RED BULL chiefs have denied that the addition of a Russian Grand Prix from next season was a factor in Toro Rosso’s surprise promotion of 19-year-old Daniil Kvyat.
Kvyat is set to become the second youngest driver in Formula One history when he makes his debut in March, having been handed a seat at Red Bull’s sister team.
Portuguese racer Antonio Felix Da Costa had been tipped to succeed Daniel Ricciardo but instead Kvyat will partner Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne.
Asked whether the inclusion of a race at Sochi influenced the choice, Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko said: “No. All the people who have been involved in this decision said Daniil was the right candidate.”
Kvyat, who has completed just 20 laps in an F1 car, impressed bosses during a test for Toro Rosso in July.
