Real Madrid trump Barcelona with the highest revenue for a football club ever

Real Madrid have announced total revenue of €603.9m (£479.7m) for the 2013/14 season, a new record for a football club, beating the record set by Barcelona earlier this summer.

The club has recorded a 10.9 per cent increase in revenue on the previous season's €521m, and has trumped the €530m reported by arch-rivals Barcelona in July.

Furthermore, Real's net debt of €71.m (a 21 per cent decrease on last year's debt) look pretty healthy in comparison to Barcelona's €287m. However, the Catalan club did report higher net profit after tax of €41m compared to Real's €38.5m.

The impressive financial results follow a successful season for the galactico-chasing super club on the pitch, with manager Carlo Ancelotti guiding the team to a much coveted tenth European triumph – "La Decima".

Los Blancos made €57.4m from that particular triumph, and will have also picked up €30m from the first year of Fly Emirates' shirt sponsorship – the largest sponsorship deal in the club's history.

And the cash keeps on rolling in. Last week Real received the biggest transfer sum in their history, around £60m for Angel di Maria – a sale not recorded in these latest figures.

Last year Real topped the Deloitte Football Money League (based on revenue generated) for the ninth successive season. Today's results suggest the Champions League may not be the club's only "decima" this season.
