Rangers look to scupper Dave King coup as turmoil worsens

THE BOARD of beleaguered Scottish football club Rangers is looking to thwart attempts by shareholder Dave King to call a general meeting in order to oust four directors. The club released a statement yesterday saying it intends to have King’s notice withdrawn under the Alternative Investment Market rule requiring all individuals appointed to the board of a UK public company to be “suitable” – thought to be reference to King’s criminal record for tax evasion in South Africa. King’s proposal also calls for himself and two associates to be appointed to the board. Last night the team’s caretaker manager Kenny McDowall resigned, yet the club said he “will serve his 12-month notice period.”
