Ramsey urges Arsenal to make Man City win cornerstone of run

ARSENAL midfielder Aaron Ramsey has called on his side to use Sunday’s landmark victory at Manchester City as a springboard for the lengthy unbeaten run that has do far eluded them this season.

The Gunners upset Premier League title-chasing City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to end disastrous form against the division’s biggest teams that has included chastening defeats at Liverpool and Chelsea.

Three games is the longest streak without loss that Arsene Wenger’s team have managed this term, but Ramsey believes a major scalp could trigger a repeat of last season’s 12-match sequence.

“We have got a lot to play for this year so hopefully now we can build on this performance and that will give us even more confidence going into the business end of the season,” he said. “There is still a long way to go in this league. Many teams are taking points off each other. We will concentrate on our own game and hopefully go on a big run and see where that takes us at the end.”

Ramsey returned from injury at City but was overshadowed by Francis Coquelin, and the Welshman believes the French former Charlton loanee has a bright future.

“He’s at that age now where he understands the game a lot more and he has done really well in the last few weeks,” Ramsey, 24, said of 23-year-old Coquelin. “Hopefully he can build on his performances and he has got every chance of turning into a top defensive midfielder.”
