Racing betting: Kimberella looks a Diamond bet with Mr Chester booked

Chester is one of the most unique racecourses anywhere in the world. It’s tight twists and turns mean that races can be won or lost in a matter of strides.

That makes the jockey even more important and there is simply no-one better than Franny Norton around the Roodee.

His aggressive style is perfect for the demands of the course and I was delighted to see him jocked up on KIMBERELLA in the Boodles Diamond Handicap (Wednesday 3.45pm).

Dandy Nicholls’ six-year-old has lost his last 12 races, but he can make it lucky 13 from a perfect draw in stall three.

I was impressed with his reappearance run at Ripon when he raced all alone on the far side rail yet still managed to grab fifth.

He’s won at this course before and was a respectable fifth on his last visit here in August from a 10lb higher mark.

His prominent running style is perfect and he could prove hard to peg back at around 6/1.

Tom Dascombe and Michael Owen love nothing more than a winner at this meeting and they may not have to wait too long this year.

The yard have won the opening Stellar Group Lily Agnes Stakes (2.10pm) twice in the last six years and have also had two runners-up during that time.

FIERY CHARACTER landed a hot-looking maiden at Newmarket’s Craven meeting last month and she looks better quality than the stable normally run in this race.

Ed Dunlop and Ryan Moore can combine to take the closing Chesterbet Handicap (5.25pm) with RED VERDON.

The son of Lemon Drop Kid was very unlucky not to win on his reappearance at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago and the stable is in flying form.
