Property of the Week: Find out how much it is to have former prime ministers and BBC presenters as neighbours in Connaught Village

Most London villages are affluent places that aim to be the best of both worlds. Leafy streets and indie retailers take the beauty and community of rural life, but the school run can be done on foot and the office is half an hour away on the Tube.

Albion Street, Hyde Park, £5m

Connaught Village is one of the capital’s oldest and most venerable examples. Situated on the northern edge of Hyde Park, it’s home to political and media royalty, such as former Prime Minister Tony Blair, BBC presenter Claudia Winkleman and GQ editor Conrad Quilty-Harper.

Many of its townhouses, particularly the ones on Albion Street, where this one (pictured) currently on the market for £5m sits, were designed by George Gutch, who designed much of the Paddington Estate in the 1800s. By the end of the century, it had become a fashionable address for the wealthy and well-to-do.

“This luxurious townhouse is perfectly situated for those who wish to be right next to Hyde Park and is popular with celebrities, business moguls, wealthy families and public figures,” says Martin Bikhit, managing director at Kay & Co, the estate agency handling the sale.

This Georgian property comprises over 3,000sqft of living space and it’s Grade II Listed, meaning its facade and many of its historic internal details are protected from development.

There are five floors in total, with full height sash windows as you walk in and a separate dining room on the ground floor. The lower ground floor is ideal for entertaining, too, with a play room, wine cellar and a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom for a family member or live-in staff. The other three bedrooms also have ensuite bathrooms and the master bedroom suite takes over the entire second floor, boasting a walk-in wardrobe.

It’s set to be a good investment, too, with Paddington Station set to launch its Elizabeth Line service from December, with links to Heathrow Airport.
