Pret A Manger trials fine dining in a bid to boost evening trade

PRET A Manger has delighted its devoted customer base by trialling a sit-down service in the evening at one of its London branches.

The ubiquitous British sandwich and coffee chain started its trail run at its Strand branch two weeks ago after six months of preparation. The group is looking for ways to maximise revenues as most outlets close by the evening.

Customers opting for a Pret dinner will be greeted at the door from 6pm onwards Monday to Saturday and 4pm on Sundays.

They will be served at the table and can even chose from a wine list before browsing the menu for meals such as baked sweet potato wedges and chicken salad.

Pret chose to trail the scheme at its Strand branch as it looks to capture the pre-theatre market.

Its decision to serve wine and beer comes after Starbucks announced in February it would be serving alcoholic drinks in the evenings as it sought to extend its trading day.

While Pret’s management say there are no current plans to roll out the scheme to its other 300 outlets, they stated they would monitor its progress closely.
