AN UNNAMED Premier League club has been bought out by a member of the ruling family in the United Arab Emirates, a WAM news agency report revealed last night.

The report claims Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Customs and Seaports, has purchased a 60 per cent stake in a top-flight club and will take over as honorary chairman.

If proved to be true, the unnamed club would be the second in the Premier League to be taken over by Middle Eastern owners, following in the footsteps of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mansour at Manchester City.

It is unclear also whether the club in question is likely to be Portsmouth, with the south coast club currently in the process of being bought out by another Abu Dhabi investor, Sulaiman al-Fahim.

According to the WAM report, further details of the secret takeover are to be revealed at a press conference in the next few days.
