Powell’s future at Wasps hangs in the balance

WASPS are considering the future of their suspended Wales star Andy Powell, who was involved in a bar room fight with a group of football fans on Monday.

The 29-year-old, who has been charged with bringing the club into disrepute along with England international Tim Payne, faces a disciplinary hearing next week.

Powell risked angering his employers still further on Tuesday by breaking his silence on the incident which he claimed saw him lose “two pints of blood”.

Wasps are considering terminating the player’s contract, but Powell has gained an ally in the shape of Damien Hopley the chairman of the Professional Rugby Players’ Association.

He said: “I am urging caution from all parties concerned before they start castigating the payers involved before the full facts are known.”
