Pound dips below $1.39 on mounting concerns over Delta variant

Pound sterling dipped below $1.39 today as concerns about the Delta variant of coronavirus gather momentum.

The pound was down 0.26 per cent against the greenback to buy $1.38 this afternoon.

The fall suggests investors are concerned that the rapid spread of the Delta variant of coronavirus first identified in India could impact the UK’s economic recovery from the pandemic.

Versus the euro, pound sterling was flat at 1.6.
