Porsche Design makes the ultimate penthouse for a supercar collector

Supercars aren’t just made to be driven, they’re made to be seen. To a collector, the curved bonnet, impeccable paintwork and fine leather interior of a $200,000 Porsche is a work of art just as worthy of admiration as a $5m David Hockney painting. The trouble is, cars don’t hang on walls, but Porsche Design thinks it’s found a solution.

Rather than parking your Porsche in a dingy garage in the basement, take it up to your apartment with you in a specially-designed lift that acts as a glass display case once it’s there.

The patented lift system, which claims to be the first of its kind, is called “The Dezervator”, a reference to Gill Dezer, the president of Dezer Development, the Floridian real estate group Porsche Design teamed up with to create its first residential skyscraper.

Standing tall – 60 storeys to be exact – on Sunny Isles Beach, seeing the finished Porsche Design Tower Miami was “mind-blowing”, says CEO Jan Becker. Once its 132 apartments are sold, they’ll add an estimated $840m worth of real estate to Porsche Design’s portfolio.

Of the six remaining homes, one stands out above the rest – a four storey penthouse with a guide price of $32.5m. Soaring 56 levels above the oceanfront, the apartment comes in at just under 19,500sqft – the average size of a detached house in the UK is approximately 1,600sqft.

And if you’re wondering what you’re meant to fill all that space with, it’s cars. The glass lift can whisk up to 11 vehicles to your mansion in the sky, to be admired in the comfort of your own home, where it’ll compete with a prime view over the Atlantic Ocean.

To ensure your bouncing brood of supercars are well taken care of, the development offers a Car Concierge service to carry out regular maintenance, tire rotations and wash them until they’re sparkling clean.

And the luxuries don’t stop there. Inside the tower, buyers will be able to get Vichy shower massages in the spa, bask in an over-sized tub on the Sunset Terrace, and hold events in the oceanfront ballroom or one of the clubrooms, which include cinemas and a game room with virtual racing and golf simulators.

What do you get the car collector who has everything? A gallery to showcase them all in, of course, and the penthouse isn’t bad either.
