Budget 2015: Renton Osborne goes Toryspotting

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose the Tories.

That was George “Renton” Osborne’s message to electorate, as he used the final Budget of this coalition to go Toryspotting.

“We choose the future,” the chancellor said, in a sequence reminiscent of the opening of Ewan Macgregor’s 1996 film. ”We choose economic security. We choose jobs. We choose the whole nation. We choose responsibility,” he continued running with the same the.

It was a whole list of things we can choose simply by sticking with Cameron, Osborne and Co on 7 May .

“We choose families. We choose aspiration,” said Osborne.

This election is all about competence versus chaos as far as the Tories are concerned, and yesterday’s Budget was as much an election rally as it was an economic statement.

The unsubtle implication was that voters must not risk this stability and growth by voting Labour in May.

Osborne mostly kept his promise to have “no giveaways, [and] no gimmicks”.

However, he could not resist helping out a few mates in trouble in key marginal seats, such as making cash available for the RAF Museum in Hendon, where the Tory MP Matthew Offord has a majority of just 106.

And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got an election?
