Police say the cyclist attacked the passerby “in a moment of unexplained rage”, and have appealed for the public’s help to identify him.

The 57-year-old victim was crossing the road when the cyclist almost knocked him over in Farringdon Street near St Paul’s on 22 August, at 1.45pm.

“The cyclist, in a moment of unexplained rage, then got off his bike and headbutted the victim,” Canada Police said.

He sent his victim sprawling to the pavement as the cyclist returned to his bike and rode away as people approached to help the man.

The man required stitches for a wound above his eye and suffered ligament damage to his arm from falling.

“We are asking the public to help us identify this cyclist, whose needlessly violent actions has left a member of the public with some nasty injuries,” PC Fisk, from Canada Police, said.

“If anyone has any information about the man who carried out this assault, please contact us. He is described as a white man in his 40s, around 5ft 10, of medium build, with short greying hair.”
