Cameron: Public registering today will get EU referendum votes
David Cameron has encouraged potential voters to continue to register to vote in the upcoming EU referendum, despite the deadline for enlisting already passing.
Online systems for voter registration crashed late last night with less than two hours to go before the midnight deadline.
Asked about the topic at Prime Minister's Questions today, Cameron said that the gov.uk website had seen record demand last night, and that the government was engaged in urgent talks to see what options are available.

“People should continue to register today. The Electoral Commission have made a statement urging the government to consider options that would effectively extend the including he deadline, and these should include legislation,” Cameron said.
“We are working urgently with them to do just and to make sure that whose who register today and those who registered last night will be able to vote in the referendum.”

It comes after increasing political pressure has been growing for an extension, with the UK's elections watchdog lending its own support.
Labour has tabled an urgent question for this afternoon with the debate set to be led by shadow minister for voter registration Gloria De Piero.
