Police robot deployed at Bank of England over suspect car

The roads around the Royal Exchange and Bank of England have been closed down and a police robot has been deployed, as a result of a suspect vehicle.

It's rare to see the City so empty – and as the pictures below reveal, the closure has caused chaos for commuters.

City Police have tweeted that they are dealing with a suspect vehicle and that as a result the "surrounding roads are closed to pedestrians and vehicles". Now the area has been deemed safe, and reopened to pedestrians.

The Bank of England released a statement to say that the central bank had "moved staff to safe areas of the building", from essential operations could continue.

Bank station has also been re-opened with trains running as normal. Central and Northern Line trains were closed during the security alert, and local office workers were told to stay clear of windows.
