Pearson rejects job fears as Villa down Leicester
LEICESTER manager Nigel Pearson insists he is not worried about getting the sack despite yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa leaving his team anchored to the bottom of the Premier League.
The Foxes took the lead when Leonardo Ulloa capitalised on Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan’s poor handling, but Ciaran Clark headed an equaliser and Alan Hutton’s first goal for the club completed the turnaround, before Leicester’s Paul Konchesky was sent off. Successive victories have lifted Villa to 11th and piled further misery on Leicester, who have not won in 10 league games, yet Pearson played down fears for his own position.
“There is no point me worrying,” he said. “Of course I am a proud man, I want to stay in charge, but there is no point allowing those added pressures to affect how I do my job. I do my job in the right way for us and I will continue to do that until I am told otherwise.”
Villa boss Paul Lambert was himself under pressure just weeks ago but is now basking in a five-game unbeaten run.
“Have we turned the corner? You’re never quite sure but we’re on a little bit of a run,” he said. “We have got to try and get this massive football club up the table.”
