You are invited to visit James Purdey & Sons Ltd at Audley House, a shop, historical collection and shrine to the traditional British sporting and country life.

If there is one name that epitomises the British country sporting weekend, it’s Purdey. The choice of every British monarch since Queen Victoria, Purdey has become the essential ingredient for the best country house parties, as illustrated by those featured on Gosford Park, Downton Abbey and The Crown.

The Purdey style comes from more than 200 years of tradition and founder James Purdey’s insistence on doing things that are ‘just right’, which is a succinct way of saying ‘quality without compromise’ and ‘absolutely fit for purpose’.

While it all started with shotguns, rifles and even duelling pistols, Purdey now offers clothing, leather goods and luxury gifts as well as the range of guns and shooting accessories that you would expect. You can kit yourself out for the grouse moor, a clay day, a country walk or a casual day in the office. All can be found at Audley House in South Audley Street, Mayfair which has been Purdey’s home since 1883.

Audley House retains its original Victorian character, particularly in the famous Long Room, the original office of James Purdey the Younger.
Come in and browse through the best of tweeds, silks, cashmere and fur all made exclusively for Purdey.

Check out the hand finished oak bark tanned leather luggage and accessories; special pieces made from leather found on a 200 year old shipwreck; handmade knives and sticks; and don’t forget to browse the colourful socks.
Also on display is a selection of the world’s finest new and used shotguns and rifles, made by craftsmen in Purdey’s London workshop. Ask to experience the feel and balance of the Purdey Trigger Plate Over-and-Under shotgun, a new gun designed for the tough conditions of modern high-bird shoots. Look at the new Bolt Action Rifle with a titanium chassis built into the woodwork to give a free floating barrel with sub MOA capability.

Benefits for City PM Club members include 20 per cent off all Purdey branded clothing & accessories.

Look Out for:
• A portrait of W G Grace signed by the man himself
• A tiny working shotgun built for King George V
• A hole in the plaster made by a WW2 bomb
• A piece of Royal wedding cake
• The Purdey ledgers – one contains an order for supplies which Charles Darwin took on his famous voyage on the Beagle
