DANTON’S DEATH AT THE NATIONAL
Doesn’t Toby Stephens ever rest? Having only just finished a run in Tom Stoppard’s play The Real Thing at The Old Vic, he’s straight into dishevelled hair, frock coat and the bloody purges of the French Revolution in this new production of the play by 19th century German writer, Georg Buchner. Stephens plays Danton, a swaggering revolutionary who goes up against Robespierre as he longs to rid the revolution of its murderous legacy, and ends up facing the guillotine himself. Until 14 Oct, National Theatre Olivier, Southbank, SE1 9PX. Tickets from £10 from www.nationaltheatre.org.uk.

INTO THE HOODS
With the ever-increasing, Britain’s Got Talent-inspired popularity of urban dance, it’s a great moment for the return of Zoo Nation’s hip hop take on Stephen Sondheim’s fairytale musical. 30 Jul-15 Aug, Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, SE1 8XX. Tickets from £15 at www.southbankcentre.co.uk.

VAUXHALL MOTORS BOWLING CLUB
Lawn bowls gets hip this weekend in Brick Lane, with an afternoon mixing bowls with live bands, DJs and cream teas. Aug 1, Brick Lane. For tickets, go to www.vauxhallmotorsbc.co.uk
