KURT & SID
What would have happened if Kurt Cobain and Sid Vicious had ever met? Probably the mother of all hard drugs blow-outs, but writer Roy Smiles looks for something more meaningful in this look at fame, addiction and rock music. On the cusp of his famous shotgun suicide at his home in Seattle, Nirvana-frontman Cobain (Shaun Evans) finds himself visited by the ghost – or is he? – long-dead Sex Pistols hell-raiser, played by Danny Dyer, in an intriguing new show. Until 3 Oct, Trafalgar Studios 2, 14 Whitehall, SW1A 2DY. Tickets £20 from www.ambassadortickets.com

OKTOBERFEST IN THE CITY
Bavaria’s Oktoberfest is much too good a celebration to squeeze into just one month. In fact, at traditional Germany’s London outpost, the Bavarian Beerhouse on City Road, the festival gets underway this Thursday, and lasts for the next seven weeks. Oompah bands, traditionally-attired waitresses and vast glasses of frothy Bavarian beer will be present and correct, along with live entertainment and an awful lot of schnitzel. 17 Sept-31 October, Bavarian Beerhouse, 190 City Road, EC1V 2QH. Tickets £12.90 from www.bavarian-beerhouse.co.uk

BOOK NOW: RICHARD HAWLEY
Yorkshire’s finest – and possibly only – fifties-throwback indie singer-songwriter with a Britpop past, a voice like Roy Orbison and a rockabilly obsession will be appearing at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire next month. With five albums of lush balladeering under his belt and another to come – Truelove’s Gutter, due for release later this month – Hawley, who in the past played guitar for Pulp and Longpigs, is also a first-rate entertainer. 8 Oct, O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Shepherd’s Bush Green, W12 8TT. Tickets £22.50 from www.ticketweb.co.uk
