MAHARAJA AT THE V&A
Think thrones, gem-encrusted weapons, Rolls Royces – such were the trappings of the Maharajas that ruled from the collapse of the Mughal empire in the early 18th century to the end of British rule in 1947. The show is full of bling but also uses art, textiles, jewellery to examine the maharajas’ courtly culture and princely ideals and their changing role in society. 10 Oct-17 Jan at the V&A, Cromwell Road, SW7 2RL, tel: 020 7942 2000.

RUGBY STARS COOK AT CINNAMON KITCHEN
The City’s favourite Indian restaurant hosts an evening of food and fun with stars from the England team cooking to raise money for disadvantaged children. “Scrum Dine With Me” will see each player cook four courses for an expectant crowd. Thankfully, chef Vivek Singh’s staff will be on hand to make sure the food is more than edible. 21 Oct; tickets £125 per person. 9 Devonshire Square, EC2M 4WY To book, call 0207 626 5000.

CHOCOLATE WEEK MENU AT MINT LEAF
Another charitable excuse to eat: 10 per cent of the proceeds from next week’s chocolate menu at Mint Leaf will go to The Sick Children’s Trust. With cocoa in every Indian-inspired course (think ribs with onions caramelised in chilli, ginger and dark chocolate) and a host of well-matched cocktails and wines, this is pure indulgence – the ethical way. 12-18 Oct, 12 Angel Court, Lothbury, EC2R 7HB, to book call 020 7600 0992.
